What is Monarch School?

Monarch School is a public school in the Gwinnett County Public Schools system. We serve special needs students ages 3, 4, and non-school-age 5 in our early childhood program (ECP). We also partner with a nonprofit organization, Ninth District Opportunity (NDO), to provide Federal Headstart and Georgia State Pre-K programs to typical children in cooperative classrooms with our special needs students. GCPS students benefit from learning among typical same-age peers, and NDO students have the benefit of learning alongside diverse peers. On the other side of our school, our ADAPT program serves GCPS special needs students ages 18-21 who have completed high school and would benefit from additional services in order to transition to adult life. These students receive job skills training at job sites around Gwinnett County, as well as instruction in community skills, daily living, and recreation.

Our goal at Monarch School is to help our ECP and NDO students enter kindergarten at or above the level of their same-age peers, and to help ADAPT students enter adult life ready to live and work at an appropriate level of independence.
